Our first review of a New Zealand based supplement company Self Omninutrition, the creators of Ripped Burn, which in my eyes is fantastic on paper, it has some great ingredients, but equally not so great.
Self Omninutrition were almost there when it came to creating one of the best fat burners on the market, however, the added ingredient of Yerba Mate when mixed with Caffeine has been known to cause some issues.
Let’s have a closer look and see if it’s the right fat burner for you.
Benefits of Ripped Burn
In the words of the New Zealand Company, Ripped Burn claims to;
- Ideal for a toned and defined body.
- It helps you lose weight and stay fit.
- Developed to encourage your body toning goals.
- Reduces appetite so you eat less.
Looking through the ingredients, these claims do hold some weight. It could help suppress your appetite, increase metabolism and give you a detoxifying effect.
However, if you’ve followed some of my other posts, you’ll see I’m no fan of proprietary blends. This basically means that there’s no measured amount of each ingredient.

A Closer Look – What’s Inside
Yerba Mate Extract – Will help you boost through your workouts and help you in a similar way to caffeine. It’s been known to increase adrenaline levels, which could help with fat burning. However, when mixed with caffeine, it could cause you side effects.
Inositol – Mainly used to treat anxiety (probably added because of the aggressive mixes in the supplement). Can improve mood, create a relaxing feeling and has been linked to the same properties as B vitamins.
Choline Bitartrate – Used to stimulate and increase energy levels, however little is known about this ingredient and its effects in human studies. Large doses should be avoided.
Caffeine – A safe all rounded in the fat burning world. Caffeine will provide you with stimulation throughout the day, boost metabolism and create a fat burning effect. Caffeine is the most widely used fat burning supplement around the world.
Coleus Forskohlii – Taking this could increase testosterone, protect aginst cancer and inflammation, and helps burns fat by increasing levels of an enzyme called cyclic adenosine monophosphate, which is linked directly to fat burning.
Tea Extract – A safe and standard fat burning ingredient. Tea provides many health benefits for detoxing the body and lifting your mood. It can also increase the metabolism.
Artic Root Extract – Also known as Rhodiola Rosea. This powerful herb has been used for centuries to fight fatigue, especially that of physical exhaustion. However, even with its powerful benefits, it’s advised never to mix adaptogens and stimulants together for fear of causing side effects.
Green Tea – Next to caffeine, Green Tea is probably the second most used fat burning supplement ever used. It helps to release fatty acids and the build-up of glycogen in the liver. It will also benefit you by breaking up fatty acids for energy.
Chili Extract – Chilies are widely known to help you burn fat by creating a thermogenic effect in the body. The chili heats up the body and in turn, your internal system will have to work harder to regulate your body’s temperature, making you burn extra calories.
Amaranth Seed Extract – Will help you to boost energy, absorb food more efficiently and provide you with more energy.
Green Coffe Bean Extract – Works to help you increase your energy levels, prevents build up of glucose in the liver, and increases your metabolic rate. Perfect for aiding in fat loss.
Wakame Algae Extract – Also known as seaweed. Wakame can provide you with a rich variety of minerals and vitamins such as vitamin K and B and D. It will help to detoxify your body and aid in better overall health.
Black Peper Extract – This simple but effective ingredient will help you to increase the thermogenic effect in the same way as a chili pepper. More thermogenic effect = more fat loss.
Vitamine B6 – Protects your immune system, and helps to create a healthy metabolism.
Folic Acid – Is another type of B vitamin that use to treat anemia and help boost the body’s defenses against illnesses. It also promotes new cell growth and can prevent the cancerous DNA cells from building up.

As with all proprietary blends, it’s a risk as you’ll never know what, or how much you will be taking of each ingredient.
One thing to always watch out for is the mixture of Adaptogens and Stimulants, which is the case in this fat burner. So be wary of any fat burners following this protocol.
Watch out for Yerba Mate and Caffeine being mixed together, it can cause adverse reactions such a headaches, stomach problems, dizziness and in some cases, vomiting.
How To Use
Little can be seen from their website on how to take this supplement, but after hours of looking through the internet, I managed to find some kind of recommended dosage.
It’s said to be taken 4 times per day with food.
Where Can I Buy It?
You can buy it direct from self.nu
How Much Does It Cost?
€38.99 Euros or $42.77 USD for 120 capsules making it a 30 day supply
I like Ripped Burn as it contains some natural ingredients and some great thermogenic properties mixed with Green Tea and Green Coffee Powder, which are all on my top lift of ingredients.
However, it’s a proprietary blend. So if you’re serious about your health, and your wallet, you might want to think twice.
