BSN are a huge player in the world of fitness supplements. They have created numerous big named supps that pump, grow, shred and enhance sporting performance.
However, BSN may have missed a trick with their Hyper Shred Fat Burner.
It contains some very useful ingredients for shredding up and seeing those abs. And yes! it does create a thermogenic fat burning effect, but, as we all know, not all fat burners are created equal.
Let’s have a closer look and see if it’s the right fat burner for you.
Benefits of Hyper Shred
- Weight Management
- Energy and Focus
- Physical Performance
BSN is one of the biggest named brands on the market, they have created some quality products through the years with a huge fanbase.
Protein shakes, pre-workouts and a whole host of other supplements are in their arsenal of world-class supplements.
However, not everyone can get it right all of the time.
BSN have created Hyper Shred, in my opinion, in a bit of a rush and careless way. It contains a proprietary blend of ingredients along with a cocktail of stimulants & adrenaline boosters.

A Closer Look – What’s Inside
Thiamin (Vitamin B1) – All B vitamins are essential for optimal health. B1 is an essential vitamin, which can be found in meat, cereal grains, nuts and beans. It releases the energy from food to the entire body.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) – Vitamin B2 has numerous benefits for overall health and weight loss. It breaks down food and uses it for energy.
Niacin – Which is widely known a B3 helps to suppress hunger and increased the good hormones in the body.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCI) – This B vitamin helps speed up the body’s metabolism and also helps to break down fats which are in foods for energy.
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) – A lot of B vitamins work in a similar way, this also can be said for B12 it also helps to break down fat and use it for energy. It’s also said to improve the body’s metabolism and increase mood.
Chromium – Another big player in weight loss. Chromium is found in plants and controls appetite. Makes sticking to your diet that much easier.
Caffeine Anhydrous – A widely used and powerful stimulant that works incredibly well in a lot of fat burners. Caffeine Anhydrous raises the metabolism and helps increase energy levels.
Bitter Orange Extract – AKA: Synephrine, is now being used in used many weight loss supplements, but has not proven to show the best results. On occasion, when combined with caffeine, synephrine (Bitter Orange Peel) can cause a number of side effects.
Red Pepper – Red Pepper is great for creating a natural thermogenic effect in the body, personally, I’d love to see more ingredients like this in fat burners. It works by increasing the body’s temperature, which in turn takes more effort for the body to cool down, hence more energy used = fat loss!
Black Pepper Extract – Another ingredient that is seriously undervalued and underused. It helps the body to absorb nutrients into the bloodstream while aiding fat loss.
Bacopa – Mainly used as a traditional medicine, its main goal was to increase memory and has been said to reduce anxiety. I can only assume this ingredient has been added to counter the possible adverse reactions received from some of the other “harsh” ingredients.
DL-Phenylalanine – Essentially this ingredient is an amino acid, and when it’s broken down into the blood stream it releases dopamine and noradrenaline – it’s great for lifting mood and a sense of wellbeing.
Toothed Club Moss – Again, a more of a traditional remedy for increasing the brain’s ability to improve is cognitive functions. It helps and promotes memory in the brain. It also works by blocking the enzymes that are responsible for causing brain function decline.
Banaba Leaf – AKA: Lagerstroemia – it’s main use over the years has been with people who find it difficult to control blood sugar levels such as diabetics. It works by using corosolic acid as a tool to control blood sugar levels, making sugar and other carb sources easier to consume. However, scientific studies on these claims are limited.

As always, proprietary blends are suspicious and problematic. As they don’t tell us the actual dosage of each ingredient, who’s to believe what they say is true? but most importantly, how safe it’s going to be!
“1000 mg/day of bitter orange is the minimum adult lethal dose” – Human Performance Resource Centre Org
Full report on Bitter Orange Peel (Synephrine) can be found here: http://hprc-online.org/dietary-supplements/files/Monograph_Synephrine.pdf
It will still promote some fat loss effects, such as the raised metabolism through the use of caffeine and Red Pepper. But a lot of the other ingredients are on the cheap end of the market and don’t hold much weight for seeing the best results.
How To Use
If you have ever visited the homepage of Hyper Shred on BSN’s website, then you’ll have seen the “HUGE” disclaimer and warning signs to “CONSULT A DOCTOR” and “DO NOT CONSUME CAFFEINE OR SYNEPHRINE FROM OTHE SOURCES”
All of this has been stated before the directions of use. Not sure about all of you, bu that makes me feel a little uneasy about using this product.
In the words of BSN:
“DIRECTIONS: Take 1 capsule of HYPER SHRED® with a meal or protein shake. Wait at least 4-5 hours and assess your tolerance. If suitable, consume another capsule with a meal or protein shake. Do not consume more than 2 capsules daily separated by at least 4 hours.
How Much Does It Cost?
It costs $35.99 for 90 servings
Okay, this product can promote fat loss, it can create a thermogenic effect, and it can increase energy levels, but can it do it safely and in the best possible way? I not totally sure about that.
The proprietary blend is always a worry, especially, when companies such as BSN add in ingredients such as Bitter Orange Peel mixed with Caffeine.
However, with a large amount of uncertainty revolving this supplement and it ingredients I would not be taking this anytime soon. If BSN ever change things up and state how much each serving contains, then I’ll think twice and eat my words. Until then, there are other fat burners out there that could do the trick in a much safer way.
